The Mentrau Iaith

The aim of the Mentrau Iaith is supporting and promoting the Welsh language across Wales.

The first Menter Iaith was established in the Gwendraeth Valley in 1991, and in the years that followed, volunteers from other communities across Wales came together to form their own Mentrau.  Today, there are 22 Mentrau Iaith which serve each and every part of Wales.

The Mentrau Iaith are the way in which local communities work together for the benefit of the Welsh language.  They have proven to be an effective community development model whose work makes a real difference to local communities.

The work of each Menter Iaith is managed by voluntary management committees and each Menter works with a variety of other partnership organisations locally.

I enjoy Italian food, chocolate, the sense of humor of Tudur Owen and Bethan Gwannas, all sorts of music from Patrobas to Laurence Garnier, Bob Delyn a’r Ebillion, the Rolling Stones and every band from Blaenau Ffestiniog.

I have worked for the Menter since September 2013, and previously worked in marketing and tourism with Denbighshire County Council, The National Trust, HTV, Daily Post and North Wales Newspapers.

Living in the beautiful Hiraethog area ond the border between counties Denbighshire and Conwy, I have spoken Welsh for about 50 years!

    Finance and Business Officer

Have worked for Menter Iaith Sir Ddinbych since April 2004, firstly as an Administrative Officer then as a Finance and Business Officer. Since then I’ve seen many changes in attitude with more demand to support the Welsh language recently.

I like cooking, walking, swimming and keeping everything tidy!! I enjoy spending time with my husband and family, especially the little grandson, and socialising with my friends.
